Tadka (Tempered) Dal Mild Recipe:

Ingredients:

Method:

  1. Begin by washing the lentils and peas thoroughly under running water. Drain and set aside.

  2. In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add the washed lentils and peas to the boiling water.

  3. Season the lentils and peas with turmeric, salt, Ferns' Mild Curry Paste, and Ferns' Ginger Garlic Paste. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.

  4. Cover the pot and simmer the lentils and peas over medium heat for 15-20 minutes, or until they are soft and fully cooked. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.

  5. Once the lentils are cooked to perfection, mash the mixture gently with the back of a spoon or a potato masher until it reaches a thick, saucy consistency. Allow the dal to simmer for a few more minutes to let the flavors meld together.

  6. In a separate small pan, heat ghee over medium heat. Add the mixed seeds and mustard seeds to the hot ghee.

  7. Cook the seeds until the mustard seeds start to splutter and release their aroma, stirring constantly to prevent burning.

  8. Once the seeds are fragrant and lightly toasted, add the thinly sliced onions to the pan. Fry the onions until they turn golden brown and caramelized, stirring occasionally.

  9. Immediately pour the hot tempering (tadka) over the prepared dal, ensuring it is evenly distributed.

  10. Give the Tadka Dal Mild a gentle stir to incorporate the tempered spices and onions into the dal.

  11. Serve the Tadka Dal Mild hot, garnished with fresh cilantro leaves, and accompanied by steamed rice or warm roti for a wholesome and satisfying meal. Enjoy the comforting flavors of this classic Indian dish!
